St Maarten News media on land and online
The St Maarten written news media consists of one on land newspaper, one on land tabloid paper and seven websites (excluding my sites).
The online ‘news’ sites, like their on land counterparts tend to have a political slant or motive.
Some are more obvious than others. Although they lack the background, credentials and experience in journalism, they label themselves as ‘journalists’, this is only possible in a country like St Maarten. I have always maintained that I’m neither a journalist nor a reporter. It was the judge Mauritz de Kor who was forced to change my so called job title to ‘satirical blogger’. Unlike many in the field, I don’t feel the need to prop myself up with a fake job title. Some of the local media, should be embarrassed to even call themselves journalists, but they know that in St Maarten, they can get away with it. Most can barely write.
However there is a ‘quid pro quo’ system in St Maarten, and that’s all you need in SXM to create your own job title. Some simply support themselves and gain favors on their backs, male and female, and that is how they maintain their jobs and keep their websites alive.
When politicians fear a writer, they usually resort to blackmail and or bribes.
If they have anything, they will use it, or at least try to. If they have nothing they will try anything in their power to compromise a writer, usually using hired help. I’ve had politicians such as National Alliance, Kendall Dupersoy try to blackmail me into not posting about or releasing videos and photos of leader of government William Marlin shaking down casino bosses for cash, after losing everything at the tables. He was stupid enough to email the threats and dumb enough to admit that although he knew that they were lies, he would do what he had to. According to him, as NA Leader William Marlin’s number one boy, he would have more credibility than me, and he would smear and slander. I of course saved those emails. And published some of them. I have also published the photos and videos of William Marlin nervously fiending at the casino tables, like any street scavenger needing his next fix, and hustling the managers out of money. Where is Kendall Dupersoy right now? As usual, somewhere between William Marlin’s scrotum. He can never run again. The rules I believe are pretty simply, you can only blackmail someone if you’ve got something on them, it’s true, and you can prove it. I’ve been in this game almost ten years, I am still waiting, they are still digging… Let’s wish them the best.
St Maarten News media on land and online
The politicians are indebted to the Mafia, and the St Maarten news media, is indebted to the politicians.
The investigators are aware that the island’s government leader, is also greatly indebted to the very same Mafia bosses and casino owners that they are investigating. My blogs garnered millions of views, and still continued to receive thousands of views each day, even after I had stopped blogging. Why were my blogs so popular, and why do they continue to generate views? Although it was not intentional, I simply did what no other so called writer in St Maarten did, I posted the unapologetic truth. When threats, attempted bribes and persecution didn’t work, they simply arrested me on false charges, knowing that they couldn’t deport me, and if they had killed me as they had so often threatened, they would have martyred me.
No investigation into the crime and corruption in St Maarten can be conclusive, unless the leaders of the St Maarten government are also fully investigated for enabling the gangsters who run the country, and protecting them.
The Daily Herald would be considered the main on land St Maarten newspaper.
They are not locally owned, which makes them more pliable than most. Most people although they still read The Daily Herald for the obituaries and puzzles, no longer take them as a serious source. The advent of the online bloggers have proven the incompetence of the Daily Herald, time and time again. Bloggers, such as myself also expose many holes and omissions in the Daily Herald’s articles. The Daily Herald is known to be easily intimidated or simply bought out, usually through advertisement space by local gangsters and politician, which are sometimes one and the same. They are also subject to blackmail, something I have witnessed first hand, and cave in easily to threats of physical voilence, this according to the editor himself, after I was forced to confront him in his office.
St Maarten politicians have learned that if they want to control the Daily Herald’s reporting, they simply have to provide their ‘reporters’ with threats or bribes. The threats are easy since the vast majority of Daily Herald reporters are not local, and can simply lose their right to work in St Maarten, or they bribe them, usually with land or housing. It is no secret that the Daily Herald is securely in the pocket of Theo Heyliger and his UPP (United People’s Party) and no one even questioned the fact that according to sources, the Jaap Van Den Heuvel-Patrick Illidge Bada Bing bribe video was posted by then reporter for the Daily Herald, Michael Granger. It seems Granger’s ‘thank you’ for the video’s posting were more lucrative government jobs, that he neither earned nor were qualified for including the SCDF
Although some people consider me as a blogger as being a part of the media. I have to disagree, and distance myself from the so-called ‘legit media’ in St Maarten. I’m actually more of a vlogger than anything else, and my posts tend to be satirical, although this particular post is not. I don’t like being compared to the likes of the compromised cowards at the Daily Herald. Minister of Finance and Minister of Justice Richard Gibson OWNS the Today paper. Why does no one question that conflict of interest? Richard Gibson was forced to resign from the CFT after he could NOT pass the screening to become Minister due to child molestation/pedophilia charges, and a host of other ethical violations. His editor – admitted gambling addict Hilbert Haar, who is said to have pawned his car to maintain Francesco Corallo’s billionaire status, admits openly that he is a gambling addict, however in his delusional mind, he sees no conflict with that, and covering the full story concerning the money laundering and more that goes on at the local casinos. Sixteen square miles, and 16 casinos. Yet no one has the courage nor the sense to question that piece of statistical data.
Below are some examples of the satire that I was arrested and put in jail for in St Maarten, a democracy, on more than one occasion.
So far I have spent more time in jail for my satire than Parliamentarian Romain Laville has for his gun threat charges, more time than Parliamentarian Patrick Illidge has for accepting bribes on camera from a known pimp Jaap Van Den Heuvel. I have spent more time than politicians, the Buncampers who committed million dollar crimes. Not because I did anything, but because I had the guts to speak out.
This is part one of a series of blogs
Unlike before, I am now writing shorter, blogs and serializing them.
This series will continue as follows:
Part 1: St Maarten News Media Part1: On land news sources and media (printed media)
Part 2: St Maarten News Media Part2: Online news sites and blogs
Part 3: St Maarten News Media Part3: The St Maarten radio stations
Part 4: St Maarten News Media Part4: The St Maarten television stations and on air personalities.
I have begun also blogging a series which begins with my June 2015 incarceration, and my experiences in Europe, so far
That series is a lot longer than The News Media ones. It consists of 14 blogs so far, and I’m still not finished.
It is very blunt, honest and revealing. I’m not known for mincing words. The 14 blogs about my experiences in Holland have already been posted to a timer. I am waiting for the sites to be fully repaired and back up and running before those are published.
My websites which have been reactivated so far:
